ED overnights

2 hours 'til the end of my 4 out of 4 ED overnights. Can't wait.
Jen Louie and I got kicked in the behind last night...2yo came in with GSW to head, and each of us had 8-9 patients under our name the ENTIRE long night. Parents bringing their kids in at 3am for constipation and viral URIs, and complain about the long wait. Don't they understand that somebody else's kid just got shot in the head? What right do they have to complain? And another 5yo girl died in a high speed MVA the night before. I hate traumas.
When is my shift ending? I haven't done my Christmas shopping yet.

ED overnightin'

It's been a long time since anyone posted so I thought I would put some musings on life in the ED overnight. Fy Fy and I are here holding down the fort and giving Rona some business as she is night float. Some key things to make overnights better:
1. Work with people you enjoy: Fy Fy you rock
2. Bring snacks: I always have a Trader Joe's bag full of goodies for all when I am on. Last night it was grapes and Kettle Chips (Black pepper flavor.) Tonight it was hummus, pita chips, and baby carrots. I am not sure what will be on the menu tomorrow-I mean later tonight.

Fy Fy wants to say hello. She feels like we are on isolation. Someday we will see the rest of you... We miss you. I am sure that if Rona was here she would say hi too.

Speaking of isolation, I have been on a nocturnal schedule for weeks. I was Urgently Caring and now I am doing night/overnight shift in the ED. I don't think I remember what daylight is like. Maybe I am fine tuning my night vision. Okay, it is getting late/early in the ED I think I am getting punchy.

See some of you soon at the Monterey conference! Ah, 3rd year sleepover again!

Hugs and kisses from the ED crew!!
